What's in your client's attic?

Yes, this is an actual photo of an item I found in an attic inspection. Creepy!!

As a New York State license home inspector I am required to report on the attic space. Many homeowners never go into the attic or know its contents. It is important for the seller to check their attic prior to listing their home. I often see missing outlet covers, stored items preventing a full inspection, wet spots and mold. Many roof problems show evidence in the attic.

Remind your client’s to go into their attics and remove stored items. It is important for your clients to identify the attic problems before I do. Ask them to consult a professional if need be or recommend a pre-listing inspection.
